The short version
- Every tool, game and player on this site runs inside your browser. What you type, paste or open (JSON, tokens, certificates, videos, music, drawings) is never uploaded to us. We don't have a server that could receive it.
- We have no accounts, no sign-up and no analytics, and the site itself sets no cookies.
- Settings, scores and progress are saved only on your device, and you can see and delete them below.
- If ads are shown, they come from Google AdSense, which uses cookies. You can control that (see Advertising).

Who we are
DevToolbox (“we”, “us”) is a free collection of developer tools, learning roadmaps, media players and games, published at example.com. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the site.
Your content stays in your browser
The site is made of plain web pages with no back end. The code for each tool is downloaded to your browser, and all the work happens there:
- Text you paste into formatters, decoders, converters and testers (JSON, YAML, JWTs, passwords, regexes, Dockerfiles, environment files and so on) is processed on your device and is not sent anywhere.
- Files you open (certificates and keys in the SSL decoder, videos in the video player, music in the music player, images in the drawing board) are read by your browser from your disk. They are not uploaded or copied to any server.
- Private keys pasted into the SSL decoder are refused and never parsed.
- Passwords and UUIDs are generated with your browser's built-in secure random number generator.
You can check this yourself: after a page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tools keep working (except the API request tester, see below).
What is saved on your device
Some pages remember things for you using your browser's local storage (localStorage and IndexedDB). This data stays in your browser on this device. It is never sent to us, it is not shared between your devices, and other websites can't read it.
| Feature | What is saved | Key |
|---|---|---|
| Whole site | Light or dark theme, if you chose one | theme |
| Whole site | The last 12 tools, games and roadmaps you opened (page address and time), for “Recently used” on the home page and in search | recent-pages |
| Offline copy | A copy of this site's own pages, styles, scripts and the libraries above, so it opens and works without a connection (see below). None of your data is in it. If you delete it below, a small “offline off” note is kept so it isn't downloaded again | Cache Storage devtoolbox-*, offline-off |
| Games | Best scores and streaks | best:* |
| Learning roadmaps | Topics done, checklist ticks, solved problems, quiz scores, filter | roadmap:*, roadmaps:summary |
| Markdown editor | Your current draft, so it survives a reload | markdown-draft |
| Case converter | Option checkboxes | case-converter:opts |
| Floor plan designer | Your current plan (walls, rooms, furniture) so it is there next time, and view settings (units, wall thickness, grid) | floor-plan:* |
| Image tools | Your chosen options (format, quality, target size, resize settings, background colour). Never your images | image-tools:opts |
| JSON diff | Your chosen options (array mode, id field, ignored keys, view settings). Not the JSON you compare | json-diff:opts |
| SQL formatter | Your chosen options (dialect, keyword case, indent, layout). Not your queries | sql-formatter:opts |
| Drawing board | Your drawing (as a list of strokes) and tool settings | drawing-board:* |
| Video player | Settings, and how far you got in each video (file name, size and position, not the video) | video-player:* |
| Music player | Settings, equaliser, favourites, playlists and play counts (stored by file name and size), the last song and queue, a cache of song details and cover pictures read from your files, and, in Chrome and Edge, permission to reopen the music folder you chose | music-player:*, IndexedDB music-player |
Clearing your browser's site data for this website removes all of it, and so does the button below. If you installed the site as an app, uninstalling the app removes it too.

Checking…
Connections the site makes
Using the site still involves a few network requests. Here is the complete list:
- Loading the pages. The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3 and CloudFront). Like any web server, it receives the technical details every browser sends: your IP address, browser and operating system (user agent), the page requested and the time. Access logs, if they are switched on, are used only to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted after at most 90 days. We don't use them to identify you or build profiles.
- Saving the site for offline use. After your first visit, your browser downloads the rest of this site's pages, styles and scripts (about 2 MB, once per site update) from the same hosting described above, so every tool works offline. It doesn't happen when your browser's data saver is on. No information about you is sent along with these downloads.
- Code libraries from cdnjs. A few pages load an open-source library from cdnjs (run by Cloudflare): the YAML tools, Docker validator and env converter (js-yaml), the Markdown editor (marked and DOMPurify) and the QR code generator (qrcode-generator). Cloudflare sees the same technical details listed above when your browser downloads these files. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- The API request tester sends the requests you build, directly from your browser to the address you type in. Those requests go to that server, not through us, and that server's own privacy policy applies.
- Links to other websites (documentation, courses and LeetCode problems in the roadmaps, for example) take you to sites with their own privacy policies.
- Lock-screen controls. When the music player is playing, the song title, artist and cover are passed to your device's operating system so it can show them on the lock screen and in notifications. This stays on your device.
Advertising and cookies
The site itself does not set cookies. To keep the tools free, we may show ads provided by Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. Learn more in how Google uses information in advertising and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and from other vendors' personalised ads at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe). You will still see ads, but they won't be based on your browsing.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used, through a consent message that you can change at any time.
Ads never have access to what you type, paste or open in the tools: that data stays inside the page's own code and is never sent to anyone.
Children
The site is a general-audience developer resource and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU and UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you, and to object to its use. Because we don't keep accounts or store your content on any server, we generally hold no personal information about you. Data saved on your device is fully under your control (see See and delete your saved data). For hosting logs, or any other question, contact us. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell or share personal information for money.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, for example by adding a new feature that needs a network connection, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live.
